Insect Rescue

So much fun the kids won’t even notice how hard their little hands are working!

Materials: container with holes on the sides, yarn/string, scissors, tweezers or tongs (tongs recommended for younger children), plastic insects *can also be done with pom poms, erasers, small toys, foam letters, etc.

  • Cut a long piece of yarn or string (approximately 20 ft. pictured)
  • Tie one end of the yarn to the side of the container
  • Weave the yarn back and forth across the two sides of the container
  • Once you have come to the end of the yarn/string tie it to the side of the container
  • Place insects at the bottom of the container

  • Provide your child with tweezers or tongs (child size tweezers are recommended)
  • Reach into the container, pinch the insects with the tweezers and rescue them from the web without getting them caught

  • *For added review the children can identify the insects, name the colors on each insect they rescue, count the number of insects removed from the web, or sort what they have gotten out by type of insect/color/size
  • Place the insects back in the web to repeat the activity
  • Enjoy!
