Materials: 26 pieces of paper (index cards, Post-Its, cut up pieces of paper), writing utensil, item to tap with (wand, fly swatter, wooden spoon, etc.)
- Determine if your child will be working on upper or lowercase letters
- Write one letter on each piece of paper
- Spread the papers out in front of your child
- Determine which version you will play:
- 1) Call out one letter at a time for your child. Have them use their wand (or other item) to gently tap the letter and say “Poof!” to magically make it disappear (take the card away once it has been correctly located) until every letter is gone.
- 2) Call out one letter at a time for your child. Have them use their wand (or other item) to gently tap the letter. If it is identified correctly, repeat with another letter until every letter has been called, without taking any away. *This leaves more choices for your child and can be more challenging if they are unsure of some letters.
- 3) Have more than one child play together at a time, each holding a wand (or other item). Call out one letter at a time and have the children race to see who can find and tap the correct letter first.
- 4) Play with your child, with each of you holding a wand (or other item). Call out one letter at a time and race to see who can find and tap it first. *To provide extra practice for your child, you can purposely tap an incorrect letter and have them tell you if that was the letter that was supposed to be found.
- Enjoy!
