Latch boards and sensory boards are a great way for your child to work on their fine motor skills at home! Children get to experience various textures while exploring each item and use trial and error to figure out how each latch works! These can easily be made using items found around your home, enhanced with latches found at your local hardware store and take very little time to assemble!
On my board…
Items I had: plank of wood, feather boa, bubble wrap, touch and feel puzzle pieces, carpet square, mirrors, calculator
Items I bought: light switch, chain lock, barrel bolt, fixed staple hasp
What to look for when assembling your board…
Items that are soft, hard, smooth, bumpy, squishy, rough, crinkly, stretchy, buttons to push, things to push/pull/slide/lift/rotate/turn
*Be sure each item on the board is child friendly (no sharp or small pieces) and is well affixed to the board*
