Triceratoss

Materials: poster board, construction paper (blue, green and orange pictured), hot glue gun/glue, scissors, black marker, plastic rings or glow sticks with connectors, writing utensil

  • Trace one large kidney bean shape between two side by side pieces of paper
  • Cut out the bony frill (green) using two pieces of paper (center line showing how the two pieces connect)
  • Glue the two pieces of the bony frill together to create one large kidney bean shape
  • Glue the bony frill 2/3 of the way up the poster board
  • Cut out 6-8 (depending on the size of the bony frill) triangles using a different color paper (orange pictured) to sit on top of the bony frill
  • Glue the triangles along the top of the bony frill
  • Using a third color paper (blue pictured) trace the face of the triceratops on 2-4 (depending on the size of your poster board) pieces of paper

Two pieces of paper

Four pieces of paper

  • Glue the face of the triceratops onto the poster board, with the bottom of the bony frill landing in the center of the face
  • Create three cones using the same color paper as the triangles (orange pictures) by rolling paper to a point and using the hot glue to keep the sides together
  • Cut the bottom of the cones so that they are flat and can be set on the poster board
  • Use the hot glue to glue down the three cones (one above each ear and one on the center of the face)
  • Using a black marker draw the eye, mouth and nostrils onto the face of the triceratops
  • Set up your completed poster board in a safe space, where nothing near it can get knocked over or broken by the rings (leaning it against a wall or on a step maybe helpful)
  • Demonstrate for your child how to use the rings to toss them onto the dinosaur’s horns
  • Allow your child to practice playing the game
  • Repeat as often as the child is interested
  • Enjoy!
